“Kai Sotto is on the path to the NBA and Olympic Glory,” declares Rob Johnson, a top coach who worked closely with Kai at The Skills Factory’s program in Atlanta, Georgia.
In an interview with The Olympic Channel, Johnson revealed how Sotto is easy to work with, and that the bright youngster has what it takes to make his mark in the international arena.
Coach Johnson did not hesitate when asked if Sotto can become the first full-blooded Pinoy in the National Basketball Association: “Yes, he just needs to take advantage of the opportunities in front of him and continue to improve.”
He believes it is only a matter of time, too, before Kai steps into the Olympic scene: “I think the Olympics will be a very big stage for Kai and will give the world a chance to see him represent his country versus the other top countries in the world. He will be exciting on that stage.”
Johnson shared his impressions about Sotto’s work ethic as well. “Kai has a great attitude about training. He is a gym rat. He loves finding out information to apply to his game, to help him. Kai is very enjoyable to work with.”
In terms of his performance at The Skills Factory, Johnson has nothing but praise for Kai. His overall strength and physique have improved a lot with his dedication to the game. A great basketball IQ is also something that Sotto possesses, which makes him easy to coach and impart instructions at a higher level.
The next step for Sotto is the NBA G-League, and Coach Rob Johnson believes that the league will be a terrific experience for Kai, with his eagerness and aptitude to play at that level and his improvement as the season develops
